I am in the private practice of Clinical Psychology, Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. I specialize in helping people stop smoking, lose weight, manage chronic pain and difficult medical problems, cope with chronic illnesses, eliminate phobias, conquer crippling anxiety disorders, overcome depression, eliminate dysfunctional habits, and change unwanted behaviors. I have been in private practice since 1986.

I also perform forensic and expert witness consultation in the areas of brain injury evaluations, pain and personal injury, posttraumatic stress, disability issues, malpractice litigation, and criminal cases (gun crimes). I also do forensic hypnosis in criminal cases.

Educational Background:
I earned my Bachelors Degree in Psychology in 1975 at the State University of New York College at Oneonta, and my Masters Degrees in School Psychology and Educational Psychology in 1977 at the State University of New York at Albany. I earned my Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Statistics in 1981 at the State University of New York at Albany.

I subsequently interned in Child Psychiatry at the University of Louisville Medical School from 1981 to 1982, and then completed a Research Fellowship in Developmental Psychology at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey in 1983. I then proceeded to Philadelphia to re-specialize in Clinical Psychology at Hahnemann University Medical School where I studied from 1983 through 1986. I earned a Postdoctoral Certificate of Re-specialization in Clinical Psychology from Hahnemann’s Professional Psychology Psy.D. Program in 1986 approved by the American Psychological Association. I became licensed by the Pennsylvania Board of Psychologist Examiners to practice Psychology as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Pennsylvania in 1986.

I have participated in Continuing Education in Clinical Hypnosis, Psychotherapy, and other topics in Professional Psychology since 1986. Much of my continuing education has been through the annual advanced workshops offered by the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Books:
I am the author of the self-help book, Hypnotize Yourself Out Of Pain Now! (Published in 2002 by New Harbinger Publications) and the co-author with Moshe S. Torem, M.D. of the self-help book, Coping With Uncertainty: 10 Simple Solutions (2002. New Harbinger).

I am also the senior author of the textbook, Pain Management Psychotherapy: A Practical Guide (Published in 1998 by John Wiley, 517 pages) and the co-author of the textbook, Brief Cognitive Hypnosis: Facilitating the Change of Dysfunctional Behavior with Jordan I. Zarren, M.S.W. (Published in 2001 by Springer Publishing Company). Most recently I co-authored the textbook, Ideomotor Signals for Rapid Hypnoanalysis: A How-To Manual with Dabney Ewin, M.D. (2006. Springfield, IL: Charles Thomas.)

Professional Experience:
I served as a Supervising Psychologist in the Department of Psychology at Eastern State School and Hospital in Trevose, PA, a state children’s psychiatric treatment facility, from 1986 through 1987. I then served as the Chief Psychologist in the Department of Physical Rehabilitation Medicine at Abington Memorial Hospital, in Abington, PA from 1987 through 1989. I was the Chief Psychologist and Director of Biofeedback and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Psychiatry at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine from 1987 to 1989.

I began my private practice part-time in 1986. I went into full time private practice in 1989. I have been practicing clinical psychology, clinical hypnosis and hypnotherapy in Abington, Pennsylvania since 1987.

I have served on the attending staffs as an Allied Health Professional in Clinical Psychology at Frankford Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia and at Elkins Park Hospital in Elkins Park, PA, and as an Adjunct Faculty Member with the Institute for Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University in Chester, PA. In addition, I have held teaching positions in the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine's Psy.D. Clinical Psychology Program, and at the University of the Art's Professional Institute for Educators.

I have taught numerous workshops, by invitation, to Physicians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and other licensed Health Care Professionals.
